Day one of GCA was great. Plenty of nice talks from the people of the industry. Got my own personal ticket and had a good time at the event.
Started the day pretty well, a nice ride on the bus to the event, registered and jazz. Met up with a few familiar faces. Mr Thomas Chong who taught us business of computer games and Gibson Tang who taught us mobile games. Had short nice chat and catch up with them.
The talks were informative and great, learnt plenty of stuff here and there.
Maxime Villandre shared about codemasters, the history and how they set up in Malaysia. Alot of interesting stuff about the company and a showcase of what they do and the games too.
Chris Natsuume from BoomZap shared about the 12 mistakes that he has made so that we could learn from it. This talk was humorous, interesting and really really informative. Being brutally honest about his previous projects. Would love to list all 12 out but I am superbly tired…
Michael de Plater from ubisoft shared about Tom Clancy’s EndWar. Talking about franchise and such. And various considerations when launching and creating the game. Cool stuff.
Claude Langlais, ubisoft again, shared how they did the artificial intelligence of the crowd in the game. Involving the 3D world, character meshes, behaviours, and stuff. Very informative and clear, got to understand the mechanics of creating the crowd in the game.
Feargus Carroll, LucasArts, had the most interesting title for his talk… “Like giving medicine to a cat…”. Sharing about the game development cycle, the mistakes and other issues during development.
Melissa Lee shared about pitching. Coming from Massive Black, a company that does art for pitches and such, she shared the essentials of pitching and shared alot of wonderful concept art with the audience. and free shirts! everyones happy haha.
Peter Molyneux literally captured every single drop of my attention towards the much awaited fable 2. Sharing about the goals and visions and features of the game. The demo was awesome too.
Then networking night was fun. Drinks and food and chats with people and friends. Chilled at the poolside for quite awhile and its a pretty good day! : D
